This morning, the 10yo daughter and I watched a drum cover for Smoke on the Water. Why? Because she's learning how to play the guitar and, of course, this is your first song. It's a cultural rite of passage. Also, she's learning how to play the drums. A few months ago, I taught her this technique for 16th notes on the high-hat and she's getting really good at that. However, I showed her a different drummer. I wished that I had found this video first. I think it's important to expose her to the work of as many female musicians as possible. Yes, my dear, girls can/should also be drummers. They should be able to play any instrument that they like. I think it's easier now. But she would have taken a lot of shit for this back when I was a kid. I hope that some things are slowly changing. But I am not holding my breath.
Anyway, I'm dropping this here for posterity so that she can see this performance some day.
