This is a quick ditty that is meaningful only to me. But I wanted to write this so that I didn't forget it. A few months back, the 10yo and I were in a music store. We were shopping for a guitar strap. I just bought the girls their first guitar. It's a pink Squire Stratocaster. So cute! So of course they need a super cute strap too.
At some point we ended up in the Drums section. You see, my girl, she's only ever played V-Drums. We've got a Roland kit and we mostly play them wearing head phones. So she sat down at the kit, and, with all her 10yo might, she hammered down on the bass drum pedal. I had never seen her jump back so far and so fast in her life. That explosion of sound was the last thing she had ever expected to hear in all the universe. Indeed. The world of analog is very very frightening, no? It's all so very physical...
Yeah, so everybody else in the store jumped, too. Even me. She was a little embarrassed. She said she had no idea it would be so loud. Well, as my dad would say after I nearly sawed off a finger trying to learn how to use his electric jig saw, "That's how you learn."
I sincerely enjoy being their dad. I really do.
